D&C
A D&C is short for a dilation and curettage. This is one of the most common types of gynecological procedures done. In this operation, a portion of the lining of the uterus is removed with either a surgical instrument that’s used for scraping or with a suction device.
This type of procedure is done to help diagnose certain medical conditions, such as cancer of the uterus. And additionally, this procedure is also done for women who are interested in having an abortion, who are having a molar pregnancy, have retained placenta, or have had an incomplete miscarriage.
Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is another common type of gynecological procedure. In this procedure, your medical provider may use this operation as a way to diagnose and treat a certain list of uterine problems. For example, if you keep having repeat miscarriages, a hysteroscopy will be used to identify what may be causing repeat miscarriages.
Pelvic Laparoscopy
A pelvic laparoscopy is performed under general anesthesia. It is most commonly used for women with uterine fibroids or endometriosis treated. Also, women who are having tubal ligation performed will also have a pelvic laparoscopy.
