iPhone 12 Purple Edition: Should You Get It or Skip It?

iPhone 12 Purple Edition: Should You Get It or Skip It?

You certainly have heard of the iPhone 12 lavender edition. It sounds a bit too odd to be an official name for an Apple product and that is true. It is the popular name for the purple iPhone 12 and despite what the name may suggest, it is much cooler than what you would think.

The Mid-cycle Refresh

Apple is in the habit of releasing mid-cycle refresh devices. This means that they develop an identically looking iPhone but with slightly better hardware, along with some major software upgrades. For the 12th generation, we got the iPhone 12 lavender or purple which was just another color option for an existing lineup of smartphones.

Apple decided against fiddling with the hardware this year and despite this change, the new purple iPhones were received very well. They are now selling better than all other iPhone colors. It managed to reignite the interest of the public for the iPhone 12 while Apple continued working in the background on their next generation of iPhones.

Is It That Purple?

The purple iPhone 12 looks gorgeous in photos. Some may consider it a bit too flashy for their liking and may have wanted a toned-down purple. Their wish has been granted as the phone is not as purple as presented.

To get a genuine grasp of how the iPhone 12 lavender edition looks like, it would be worth it to check it out in person for a hands-on experience. There are plenty of brick-and-mortar shops that have it on display. What you will immediately notice is that the purple on the back is less intrusive and toned down. It is still purple but has a more pleasant shade to it. According to Tim Cook, the color is meant to inspire the spirit of spring and according to his comment, the toned purple makes much more sense.

Should You Get the Purple iPhone?

Apple is still months away from releasing its next generation of iPhones. The purple iPhone 12 has been released for a few months now and the question that most would have is if it is worth it to get the purple iPhone now or wait for the next generation. It depends on what device you own right now and how happy you are with it.

The answer to the question depends on how urgent you need an upgrade. Getting the iPhone 12 lavender edition means that you are getting a capable device that will most likely run perfectly smooth for at least a couple of years. Think about the iPhone X which was released several years ago and even today it takes great photos and runs perfectly. It does not feel dated at all despite having several generations of iPhones released since then.

Lastly, if you own a smartphone or older Apple iPhone that still runs fine and does not feel outdated, it may be worth it to wait for the next generation of iPhones that will arrive by the end of this year. The iPhone 12 lavender is a gorgeous phone but if there is no urgency for an upgrade, you should skip it.
