Things to Consider when Moving Office

Office

Everyone needs a fresh start from time to time. After a year of remote work, it might be time to move your team back into an office. You could mark the start of a new chapter with a brand new office space. Look around a few office buildings in your area to find the perfect place to re-launch your team. A new space will get your team excited about working in the office again.

Leave remote work in 2021, and start afresh in the new year. Here are a few things to consider when moving office.

Browse a few places

You need to look around a few areas, buildings and types of office. You may love the look of an open plan office – but your line of work may require private rooms. Your office needs to be practical as well as aesthetic. It’s important to review the infrastructure of the place, such as the pipes, air conditioning, heating and electrical circuits. Infrastructure problems can be expensive and annoying to fix later down the line. For example, if the DIN rails are broken, you may have a problem with the operation of electrical equipment.

Communication

You need to prepare your team for the move back into an office, and a new one at that. It’s a lot of change to handle at once. Communicate openly and encourage each team member to voice their concerns. Some people may prefer working from home because they can spend more time with their families and less time commuting. Others may be excited about the move and keen to help you with moving boxes and furniture. Keep the lines of communication open and prepare your team for the move.

Moving day

On moving day, you need to take a look around the space and make sure everything is in good condition. If something is broken or damaged, alert the seller or agent immediately. Catch any problems early on so you can avoid a much bigger situation. Label your boxes by room and move them into their designated space. For example, all the kitchen appliances should be in a labelled box and immediately moved to the kitchen. This organised system makes it much easier to unpack everything and keeps your stress levels under control.

Settling in

It takes a while to settle into a new place. Give each employee their own desk space, whether it’s a private office or hot desk. Encourage them to set up their desk straight away with their technology, chair and personal items. The sooner you feel settled in the office, the sooner you can get back to work.
