Do you often marvel at the presence of a Hafiz ? Do people make you believe that you must have extraordinary memory and abilities to be able to memorize the Quran ? Do you think that if you don’t understand Arabic, you can’t get the faculty to memorize Quran anywhere? Well, all this fuss is wrong! Here are 8 simple practical tips to help you memorize the Quran easily and successfully:
- Intent
Clearly express your intention within yourself. The purpose of your memorization should be to please Allah (سبحانه و تعالى). It is not to attract the attention of people who are likely to say, “ Mashaa Allah! Look at this brother, he’s a Hafiz! ‘. In Islam, this is called Ar-riyaa (showing off). Remember the hadith of the prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) which says: ” Actions must be judged according to intention .” Maintain a positive attitude and other steps will unfold, Inshaa Allah.
- Routine
Draw a routine and follow it to the letter. If you are attending a Hifz circle that has a routine, this is best for you. If by chance you miss a day from your routine, create some extra time to supplement the time you missed. It is very important not to procrastinate.
- Adopt positive methods: do not be in a hurry
Start with shorter suras . The higher you go, the stronger your ability to memorize verses. You have to be consistent to achieve this. Repeat a line as many times as possible. Read aloud too. Your hearing has a vital role to play along with the input of your brain. Do the Quran open and closed exercise. When you read a verse from the Quran, close it and recite it to see if you still remember it. Then open it to see if you got it right. Recite your new verses learned during prayer; this is another chance for revision. Take your time early in the morning, perhaps at Fajr for your better memorization exercise, because your brain is fresh and your environment is serene.
- Listen: The Quran has a rhythmic flow and a series of rhyming patterns
All you have to do is choose from a range of readers. Your favorite should work well for you. If you are a beginner, be sure to select a player with a slower reading pace. It helps you easily grasp every sound and pronunciation. You might wonder how easy it is for a person to reproduce a rap song verbatim. This is because the listener listens often and with great attention to the lyrics. Why listen to music all day long when you have the Hifz lens to meet and a reciting melody to enjoy?
- Surround yourself with the same minds
This provides a basis for healthy competition and builds your motivation. Better yet, find a Hifz teacher or join a Hifz circle. This will allow you to undergo frequent evaluations. It will also give you the opportunity to learn from an experienced teacher , make immediate corrections, and participate in fun activities.
- Open your imagination
read the translation of the sura (chapter) you are on. This lets you know the message with the verse. You will recognize key words which will easily bring you the verses in memory. In Creative Kinesthetic Mode, you can use hand movements to describe the content of verses as you read. In this way, your focus and your sense of imagination are only open to the words of Allah.
- Make Dua
Make Dua – invocations for Allah’s blessings upon you . Fortunately, there is a ready-made Dua at the end of each Quran (most copies of the Quran are the same all over the world). Recite the Dua each time before finishing your Quran sessions.
- Teach others
Gather a few of your friends or family members and teach them all of the new verses that you have memorized. Teaching others something you know is the best way to keep it in your long term memory. Teaching gives you the opportunity to create new ideas to help you and your beneficiaries learn in more interesting ways. This action is not only self-fulfilling, it is also enriching.
And that’s all! Memorizing the Quran is never a rigorous task. It is a daily adventure that brings you closer to self-awareness and to your Creator. By adopting these 8 simple methods, you will find it easy , Insha Allah.
