DIY jobs for the summer

Due to the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19, plans to ease all restrictions on social contact in England have been pushed back to the 19th of July (subject to review).

So, whilst there’s no denying that we’re all longing to restore normalcy, now is the perfect time to crack on with those DIY jobs you’ve been putting off for a while. After all, if you’re planning to invite friends round for a barbecue, have family coming to stay , or intend to throw a birthday party for your little ones, you want your home (and garden) to be immaculate.

Here we look at just a few renovation projects you could consider doing before mid-July…

Garden clearance

Depending on the size of your garden, it shouldn’t take you much more than a day to spruce things up – trimming the grass and hedges, removing any debris from flower beds, and planting new bulbs.

However, if you’re wanting to renovate your outdoor space or install a new garden structure (i.e. a water feature, swing set or slide for the children) you will need a little more time on your hands.

To speed the process up, it’s  worth hiring a skip to accommodate the waste generated from your clearance to save tireless trips to the local tip.

Make space for a greenhouse

Always wanted to grow your own fruit and vegetables? You’ll need a spot with plenty of light and sunshine, preferably away from frost pockets and cold winds.

Before you add a greenhouse to your garden or back yard though, you need to dig out the foundations to provide a level poured concrete base to build on.

With the help of some friends, it’s not an overly taxing job – but there can be a lot of rubbish to dispose of, including topsoil, bricks, packaging, and general rubble. A professional skip hire Liverpool service will enable you to get rid of material both quickly and safely.

Install a hot tub

Splashing out on a luxury hot tub? You’ll be pleased to know that there isn’t a huge amount of waste involved. It sits above ground, so there is no need to excavate. However, a concrete base may be required.

If you’re planning to make the most of your hot tub – offering a spa-like experience all year round – you might consider building a shelter to protect it (and yourself) against the elements. In which case, you may have timber off-cuts to dispose of.

Again, hiring a skip from a reputable firm – like GSH Skips who provide skip hire in Liverpool and the surrounding areas – will make life easier for you.

All you need to do is choose a suitable skip size (bearing in mind how much waste you expect your DIY project to generate), and let the team know when and where you need it.

They will deliver the skip to your chosen address so you can load it with rubbish, and as soon as the skip is full, give them a call and they will come and collect it.

The skip and its contents will then be taken to the local sorting facility, where 90% of the materials will be recycled. So, if you’re embarking on a DIY project this summer, hiring a skip is a brilliant idea and will allow you to dispose of rubbish quickly, easily, and sustainably – ready for the 19th of July.
