Post-Op Care: Necessary Precautions After Cataract Surgery

Cataract Surgery

Cataract or lens surgery may appear like an overwhelming and highly intricate procedure, but it’s pretty short than expected. People usually revert to such surgeries when they have vision loss due to the development of cataracts in their eyes.

Natural vision clarity does not require you to spend most of your time debating on lifestyles to follow for its achievement, but post-operative vision clarity does. However, there are a lot of cataract remedies, such as Ocular Steroid Treatment. Nonetheless, any form of eye operation requires extreme care.

Here is how you can implement a healthy routine to limit your post-operative lens recovery time.

Post-Operative Resting Period

Many people report obtaining better vision a day after their surgeries. However limited the healing period may be, you need to devise ways to control the rate of risks or any reversion. In addition, you must acknowledge the probability of a delay in the healing period because each body takes a specific amount of time to process operations.

The resting period doesn’t imply that you lay off watching TV or reading while you’re healing. You can resume normal activities as long as you feel capable enough.

Here are a couple of things you must lay off to while you’re recovering.

  • Don’t drive anywhere within the two or three weeks post-surgery. Always use public transport and accompany someone on your endeavours.
  • Restrain from any sort of heavy lifting or physical exercises. Give your body the proper amount of time to recover.
  • Prevent yourself from rubbing your eyes too much after surgery.
  • Do not take showers or baths where water has access to your eyes. Always take necessary precautions before bathing.
  • Avoid using any ointments or make-up products other than the ones prescribed by doctors or opticians.
  • Don’t expose your surgical area to the sun. You need to avoid any exposure to sunlight for the first couple of weeks post-surgery.

Sleeping Patterns Post-Surgery

Although there is no definitive sleeping position to follow post-operation, you must not lie down in places where you exert maximum pressure on your surgical area. It may cause inflammation or redness. Always wear the protection masks before sleeping provided by surgeons post-operation.

Sleep in a comfortable place where there is little to no risk of accidentally damaging your eye during your sleep. Avoid exposure to bright screens at nighttime post-surgery. It will help you recover quicker than usual.

If you still feel uncomfortable sleeping or there’s recurring eye pain, you should consult your surgeon or optician in one of the follow-up visits.

Recovery Halting Symptoms

Here are a few symptoms you must watch out for during recovery.

  • You feel recurring pain in the surgical area.
  • You feel nauseous regularly.
  • You can see white spots in your sight where ever you may look.
  • You discover any redness or inflammation indicators around the surgical area.
  • You are unable to identify objects clearly as time passes.
  • Continuous coughing and sneezing.
  • You suddenly lose sight again post-surgery. You must inform your doctors if you scratch the eye accidentally after the operation.
