5 Insane Pieces of Medical Technology

Technological advancements are occurring at a faster and faster pace each day around the world. The same could be said for medical technology advances as well.

Medical technology improvements set the standard for how the entirety of the rest of the medical field will operate. And they also could drastically change our healthcare system, if discoveries are large enough.

Staying ahead of the times is important in any subject, but particularly within the medical field. These five important developments could change your life or even save it. Let’s take a look.

1. Genome Sequence Editing Machines

First on a list of medical game-changers is genome editing. The concept of editing genes first came about last decade and is rapidly progressing. Doctors are getting closer and closer to solving some diseases or “removing” them from our DNA.

Changing the order of our DNA can have a domino effect on the rest of our body in a positive way. If we change the order of our base pairs of DNA, that in turn affects the nature of our genes. Which then factors into our nucleosomes, chromosomes, and eventually, cells in our body.

The bottom line is this- we can change and alter our bodies in a way that has never been dreamt of before. Right now, genome sequencing provides help in areas like birth defects. But in the future, it is possible that they could help solve major world issues like cancers or heart disease.

2. Bionic Eyes

We already have a few options for the millions of people around the world with poor eyesight and blindness. Glasses, contact lenses, and prosthetic eyes help so many people to see and function each day.

But there is still no cure for blindness, and current prosthetic eyes cannot help those who are blind to be able to see. In development since 2012, bionic eyes work through a camera that can attach itself to the retina and display images to the brain wirelessly.

They could essentially replace regular eyes in the future.

3. Advanced Exoskeletons

Within the past couple of centuries, there have been amazing advances in medical technology for prosthetic limbs and assistance for those who are paralyzed. And exoskeletons are taking it to a whole ‘nother level.

One of the only differences between prosthetic limbs and actual arms and legs is the ability of the brain to control the machines. But now exoskeletons are developing that connect directly to a chip in the brain.

This allows a person to control their own exoskeleton in the same manner that one controls the natural body.

4. More Medical Technology: Brain Implants

Advanced exoskeletons are possible because of brain implants, one of the most fascinating recent developments. Brain implants could lead to a slew of medical advances, including helping cure diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

5. Cloud Data Management

Just like many other data processors, the medical field is starting to fully utilize the benefits of cloud data. This helps with simplified case management to improve data entry, which makes occupational health and safety more efficient.

Now You Know

There is no doubt that medical technology is a fascinating subject. And if you have a serious illness or medical problem, more help could be around the corner!
